Silicone Fluids

Products: 7

WACKER silicone fluids (such as the popular AK series) are high-purity, clear, and odorless polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS) known for their exceptional thermal stability, low surface tension, and excellent dielectric properties. They maintain consistent physical properties across a wide temperature range (typically from -50°C to over 200°C).

Key Applications:

  • Lubricants & Release Agents: Used in industrial manufacturing, molding, and processing.

  • Dielectric & Hydraulic Fluids: Ideal for electrical equipment, sensors, and transformers.

  • Heat Transfer & Damping Media: Applied in thermal management systems and vibration control.

WACKER silicone fluids—globally recognized under product lines like WACKER® SILICONE FLUID AK—are linear, non-reactive polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS). Due to their unique chemical structure, they offer an exceptional combination of physical and chemical properties that make them indispensable across diverse industries, ranging from cosmetics and automotive to electronics and mechanical engineering.

Key Performance Properties

  • Thermal Stability: Outstanding resistance to high and low temperatures, maintaining stable physical properties typically from -50°C to over 200°C.

  • Surface Activity: Exceptionally low surface tension, resulting in high spreading capacity, excellent water repellency, and effective release characteristics.

  • Electrical Insulation: Excellent dielectric properties over a wide frequency and temperature range.

  • Chemical Inertness: Non-toxic, odorless, clear, resistant to oxidation, and chemically stable when exposed to weathering or various chemicals.

  • Viscosity Stability: Minimal change in viscosity across a broad temperature spectrum compared to standard organic oils.

Viscosity Range & Applications

Viscosity is the defining characteristic of silicone fluids, dictating their behavior and optimal use case. WACKER offers fluids spanning a wide spectrum, measured in centistokes (cSt) at 25°C:

  • Low Viscosity (0.65 cSt to 50 cSt):

    • Characteristics: Highly volatile (lower grades), excellent spreading, very low surface tension.

    • Applications: Key components in cosmetics, personal care products, polishes, cleaning agents, and as carrier fluids or diluents.

  • Medium Viscosity (100 cSt to 1,000 cSt):

    • Characteristics: Balanced flowability, excellent lubricating and water-repellent performance.

    • Applications: Mold release agents, hydraulic and damping fluids, lubricants for plastics and elastomers, textile auxiliaries, and heat transfer media.

  • High Viscosity (5,000 cSt to 100,000+ cSt):

    • Characteristics: Thick, heavy consistency, superior damping performance, stable film formation.

    • Applications: High-performance damping fluids in automotive and aerospace instruments, core components in specialized greases, high-end mechanical shock absorbers, and heavy-duty release applications.

Main Industrial Applications

  1. Release Agents: Prevents sticking in rubber, plastic, and metal molding processes.

  2. Lubricants & Maintenance: Reduces friction between moving plastic, rubber, and metal parts without degrading materials.

  3. Hydraulic & Damping Media: Provides reliable force transmission and motion control in gauges, sensors, and viscous couplings.

  4. Heat Transfer: Functions as a stable thermal fluid in closed-loop heating and cooling systems.

  5. Electrical & Electronics: Utilized for potting, sealing protection, and as a moisture-barrier dielectric fluid.
