How to effectively and permanently bond silicone rubber?
For bonding profiles, seals, and other silicone rubber components, we recommend RTV-1 (one-component) silicone adhesives from the ELASTOSIL range (such as the E43 or E41). These products feature exceptional primerless adhesion and maintain full flexibility and mechanical stability at high temperatures, even up to 180°C.

Which silicone potting compound provides optimal protection for sensitive electronics?
To protect delicate electronic components, PCB boards, and sensors against extreme temperatures and environmental factors, we recommend silicone gels like WACKER SilGel 612. This two-part (RTV-2) ultra-soft potting compound acts as an excellent shock absorber, compensating for thermal stress and preventing damage to fragile solder joints.

What do RTV-1 and RTV-2 mean in silicone terminology?
RTV stands for Room Temperature Vulcanizing. RTV-1 refers to one-component systems that cure by reacting with atmospheric moisture. RTV-2 systems are two-component materials (base and curing agent) that crosslink evenly throughout the entire volume once mixed in the correct ratio.

Where are ELASTOSIL RT series silicones typically applied?
Compounds like ELASTOSIL RT 628, RT 622, and RT 607 are advanced addition-curing silicones designed for the electronics and energy sectors. They cure without releasing any by-products (zero shrinkage) and are characterized by excellent electrical insulation and high thermal conductivity.

Do I need to apply a primer before using silicone adhesives?
In many industrial applications, a primer is not required. A significant portion of our single-component materials features self-priming properties. To achieve a strong and durable bond, it is usually sufficient to thoroughly degrease the working surface with an appropriate solvent (such as isopropyl alcohol), which significantly accelerates the production process and reduces costs.

How to properly prepare and mix two-component (RTV-2) silicones?
Precision is key. It is essential to weigh both components exactly according to the manufacturer's technical specifications (depending on the product, the mix ratio can be, for example, 1:1 or 9:1 by weight). Thoroughly stir the base component before adding the catalyst. To eliminate entrapped air bubbles, we strongly recommend degassing the mixed material in a vacuum chamber before pouring or dispensing.

Why is my addition-curing two-part silicone not curing?
This phenomenon, known as cure inhibition, affects platinum-curing (addition-curing) silicones. The crosslinking process can be disrupted or entirely halted upon contact with certain substances, such as sulfur compounds (found in natural rubber or latex), amines, or heavy metal salts. All tools, molds, and surfaces in contact with the unmixed material must be strictly free of these contaminants.
