Description
ELASTOSIL® M 4630 A/B is a professional, two-component RTV-2 silicone rubber that vulcanizes through an addition-curing (platinum) system at room temperature. It is a low-viscosity material, which ensures excellent flow and ease of filling the mold. The product has been specifically developed for the most demanding applications in construction and the arts industry, where mold durability and reproduction accuracy are critical. After mixing the components and curing, it forms a white rubber with a hardness of approximately 28 Shore A.
Key Properties and Advantages This grade of silicone stands out from the competition due to its outstanding chemical resistance to concrete and casting resins. Consequently, molds made from ELASTOSIL® M 4630 A/B feature a significantly longer service life, even in the serial production of concrete elements. The material possesses excellent mechanical properties: very high tear strength (>30 N/mm) and extreme flexibility – elongation at break reaching as much as 700%. These features make it an ideal choice for reproducing models with complex shapes and deep undercuts, allowing for easy demolding without the risk of damage. Additionally, this silicone is shrink-free (linear shrinkage <0.1%), guaranteeing perfect dimensional stability of the original. The product is compliant with BfR and FDA standards, which allows for food contact.
Versatile Applications ELASTOSIL® M 4630 A/B is utilized in many professional fields:
-
Architectural Concrete: Production of molds for concrete castings, synthetic stone, and facade elements.
-
Model Making and Prototyping: Casting resins (epoxy, polyurethane) that require absolute precision.
-
Food Industry: Creating molds for chocolate, sugar, and other food products.
-
Art Reproduction: Copying sculptures and reliefs with complex geometries and pronounced undercuts.
Processing and Instructions for Use The system requires precise dosing of components at a weight mixing ratio of 10:1 (10 parts of component A to 1 part of component B). The pot life at 23°C is approximately 90 minutes, providing comfortable time for thorough deaeration and pouring of the model. The time to reach a tack-free cured state is approximately 12 hours. The vulcanization process can be considerably accelerated by the application of heat. Please note that the platinum catalyst is located in component B. Due to the sensitivity of the addition system, components A and B must only be used together if they have the same batch number.
