In professional industry, ELASTOSIL® E43 is regarded as one of the strongest one-component RTV-1 silicone adhesives. Thanks to its fluid, self-leveling consistency and exceptionally high adhesion, E43 very often serves as a specialist alternative to conventional sealing compounds, assembly adhesives, and protective coatings.
It is the solution of choice wherever standard silicones no longer meet requirements for durability, adhesion, and mechanical resistance.
Which products can be effectively replaced with ELASTOSIL® E43?
1. An alternative to universal RTV silicones (e.g. DOWSIL™ 732, DOWSIL™ 737)
DOWSIL 732 is a widely used market standard; however, its thick, paste-like consistency limits its use in precision and thin-layer applications.
ELASTOSIL® E43 performs better when:
-
self-flowing behavior and filling of micro-gaps are required,
-
improved adhesion to silicone rubber and elastomers is critical,
-
conventional silicone tends to detach from already cured silicone.
Typical applications: electronics, sensors, precision components, thin-layer sealing.
2. An alternative to cyanoacrylate adhesives (e.g. Loctite 406, 401, instant adhesives with primer)
In many workshops and service environments, cyanoacrylate adhesives are still used to bond seals or profiles. Their main disadvantages are brittle bond lines and low temperature resistance.
Replacing them with ELASTOSIL® E43 provides:
-
a permanently elastic bond resistant to vibration and deformation,
-
temperature stability up to +180 °C (cyanoacrylates lose strength above 70–80 °C),
-
no risk of long-term cracking or chalking of the bond line.
Ideal for: silicone gaskets, O-rings, flexible profiles, vibration-exposed components.
3. An alternative to protective coatings and varnishes for electronics (e.g. silicone PCB coatings)
In applications where thin protective coatings are prone to mechanical damage, ELASTOSIL® E43 can act as a durable protective layer.
Compared to standard coatings, it:
-
forms a thicker, flexible protective layer,
-
offers better protection against moisture, vibration, and mechanical impact,
-
does not crack or flake under temperature fluctuations.
Applications: protection of connectors, solder joints, sensors, and electronics operating in harsh environments.
4. A direct alternative to RTV-1 adhesives from competing brands
ELASTOSIL® E43 can be used as a full-value alternative to many well-established industrial-grade products, including:
-
Momentive RTV108 / RTV118
comparable transparency and mechanical properties, often with better availability, -
WACKER RTV-S 691 / RTV-S 692
when selecting versions with similar viscosity and intended use, -
OTTO-SEAL® S 110
when stronger structural bonding is required rather than simple sealing, -
SikaSil®-GP
E43 offers a higher purity grade and improved tear resistance.
Why choose ELASTOSIL® E43?
No need for priming
In most applications, no primers are required on glass, aluminum, steel, or silicone.
Very high mechanical strength
Tensile strength of approx. 4.5 N/mm², placing it among the top RTV-1 adhesives.
Excellent adhesion to silicone
One of the key features that distinguishes E43 from standard silicones.
Long-term stability and durability
Resistant to temperature, moisture, aging, and environmental factors.
